What is osteopathy SEO?
Osteopathy SEO is the work of getting an osteopathy practice found when people nearby search for an osteopath, a complaint or an appointment on Google, Google Maps and AI assistants. It covers the Google Business Profile, complaint and service pages, local signals, reviews on Google, site speed, and tracking that ties each search back to a new patient booked in your practice software, all written within the advertising rules that apply to a registered health profession.
- Usually moves first
- Maps visibility and the Google Business Profile
- Compounds
- Complaint pages, and the services you run alongside treatment
- Measured by
- New patients booked, not rankings
Why osteopathy practices lose new patients online
Most practices we speak to have the same four problems, and none of them shows up in a rankings report.
New patients by referral source
| Referral source, as entered at reception | New patients |
|---|---|
| Word of mouth, friends and family | 21 |
| Referred by a GP or another practitioner | 9 |
| Walked past the practice | 4 |
| “Google” | 13 |
| Not recorded | 16 |
| Total new patients | 63 |
-
Gaps in the diary
Midweek appointments sit empty, and a late cancellation leaves a hole the front desk can't refill at short notice.
-
Patients search the complaint, not the profession
Australians search sciatica, back pain, a stiff neck or a headache 63,100 times a month. They search for an osteopath 14,700 times. More than four searches in five describe the problem, and a practice with no page about that problem isn't in the conversation at all.
-
People are still working out what an osteopath is
1,100 searches a month are someone asking what osteopathy is, or whether they want an osteopath rather than a chiropractor or a physiotherapist. Most practice websites answer neither question.
-
Numbers nobody connects
Cliniko, Nookal, Power Diary and Front Desk can report new patients. None of them can tell you which search sent them.
How patients search for an osteopath in Australia
The searches Australians make every month, grouped by what the patient needs, with the page or asset that wins each one.
| Search | Searches a month, Australia | What wins it |
|---|---|---|
| They already know they want an osteopath | ||
| osteopath | 8,400 | The Maps pack and a complete Business Profile |
| osteopath near me | 3,600 | The same profile, with accurate hours and click to call |
| osteopathy | 1,700 | A page that explains what the profession actually does |
| osteo near me | 800 | The same profile, reached by the short form people type |
| osteopathy near me | 200 | The same profile again |
| The complaint, not the profession | ||
| sciatica | 32,000 | A page about the complaint, written without promising an outcome |
| shoulder pain | 6,800 | The same, naming what an assessment covers |
| back pain | 5,800 | The same, and the single biggest page most practices never build |
| hip pain | 5,400 | A complaint page, linked from the suburb pages that matter |
| neck pain | 5,000 | A complaint page that explains the assessment, not the result |
| sciatica treatment | 3,000 | The treatment half of the sciatica page |
| tmj treatment | 2,200 | A jaw page, if your practitioners genuinely do this work |
| migraine treatment | 1,400 | A headache page, carefully written, claiming no cure |
| lower back pain treatment | 1,000 | The treatment half of the back pain page |
| headache treatment | 500 | The same headache page, reached by the plainer wording |
| Services you already run alongside treatment | ||
| dry needling | 6,300 | A service page that explains what the session involves |
| remedial massage near me | 4,700 | A service page of its own, and the service listed on the profile |
| Choosing between three professions | ||
| osteopath vs chiropractor | 500 | An honest comparison page that doesn't talk the other profession down |
| what is osteopathy | 400 | A plain explainer, which is also what AI answers quote |
| osteopath vs physio | 200 | The same comparison page, covering the second profession |
| The patients you want more of | ||
| sports injury | 200 | A page naming the sports and the complaints you actually see |
| cranial osteopathy | 150 | A technique page, describing the approach rather than results |
| paediatric osteopath | 100 | A children’s page, written to the Board’s current position |
| baby osteopath | 80 | The same page, reached by the wording parents use |
| osteopath for babies | 70 | The same page again |
| sports osteopath | 70 | The sports page, reached by profession rather than complaint |
| pregnancy osteopath | 50 | A pregnancy page, if a practitioner has real experience in it |
The complaint outsearches the profession more than four times over: 63,100 searches a month for sciatica, back pain, a sore shoulder or a headache, against 14,700 for an osteopath. Most of those people aren't ready to book. They're working out what's wrong, and the practice that answers them is the one they call.
Ahrefs Keywords Explorer, Australia, monthly average, pulled 13 September 2026. Searches with no reported volume are left out rather than estimated.
What our osteopathy SEO service includes
Six workstreams, run together, each one aimed at a new patient rather than a ranking.
-
Google Business Profile and Maps
Each practice set up properly: categories, every service you actually offer, accurate hours, photos, and practitioner listings only where they help rather than split your reviews. Most “osteopath near me” searches end on the profile, so it's where we start.
-
Complaint pages, which most practices never build
One strong page for each complaint you want more of: sciatica, back pain, a stiff neck, headaches, a shoulder that won't settle. Each explains what an assessment covers and what a session involves, without promising a result. This is where the 63,100 monthly searches in the table above actually go.
-
Service pages for the work you already do
Dry needling and remedial massage are searched 11,000 times a month between them in Australia, and most osteopathy practices offer at least one and have no page for either. Each gets a page that says what the session involves and who it suits.
-
Suburb pages, done properly
Only for suburbs you genuinely draw patients from, and each written about that suburb: parking, transport, and how far patients travel. We don't build sets of near-identical suburb pages. Search engines treat those as doorway pages.
-
AI search visibility
Patients now ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI Mode what an osteopath does and which one to see. Plain explainers and comparison pages are exactly what those answers quote, so we structure your pages, schema and listings to be found, trusted and cited.
How AI search visibility works -
Booking and tracking
Calls, online bookings and forms, each tracked in GA4, so you can compare what search delivered against the new patients recorded in Cliniko, Nookal, Power Diary or Front Desk.

Marketing inside the National Law advertising rules
Osteopathy is a registered health profession, so section 133 of the National Law reaches your website, your Business Profile and your ads. This is where we draw the line.
What we won’t publish
- Patient testimonials, on your website or in your ads
- “Specialist” or “specialises in”, unless the register says so
- Guaranteed results, or claims to be the best osteopath anywhere
- Urgency that implies harm from waiting
- A discount or a free first appointment without the terms stated
What we do instead
- Reviews earned on Google and left there
- “Substantial experience in” and “working primarily in”
- Registration checked on the public register before we write a title
- Complaint pages that explain the assessment, not the outcome
- Fees shown with health fund cover and what isn't included
Section 133 prohibits advertising a regulated health service in a way that is misleading, that offers an inducement without stating its terms, that uses testimonials, that creates an unreasonable expectation of beneficial treatment, or that encourages unnecessary use of health services. The maximum penalty is $60,000 for an individual and $120,000 for a body corporate, and the section says a court may have regard to a National Board’s advertising guideline. We write osteopathy copy to that standard. It supports your own obligations as a registered osteopath; it does not replace them. Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, s133

How much osteopathy SEO costs in Australia
Published Australian agency figures put SEO for medical and dental practices at $1,500 to $2,500+ a month, and most Australian small businesses pay $1,500 to $3,500 a month. No regulator sets SEO prices in Australia, so these are market figures, not a quote.
-
$1,500 to $2,500+
a month, what Australian agencies publish for medical and dental practices
Published Australian agency rate card, verified September 2026
-
$1,500 to $3,500
a month, where most Australian small businesses sit
Two Australian SEO cost guides agree, verified September 2026
-
US$500 to US$1,000
a month, the most common agency retainer worldwide
What moves the price
- How many locations and practitioners you have
- How contested your suburb is
- How many complaint and service pages need building or fixing
- The state of your site and your booking tracking
- Whether Google Ads runs alongside
Set the market figures next to what one new patient is worth to your practice over a course of care: the useful question is how many new patients a month the work has to bring in to pay for itself.

Osteopathy SEO Questions
Do you lock practices into contracts?
No. We work without lock-in contracts. If the work isn't paying its way for your practice, you're free to stop.
What is local SEO for osteopaths?
Local SEO is the part of osteopathy SEO that decides whether you appear in the Google Maps pack and in “osteopath near me” results. It rests on a complete Google Business Profile, consistent practice details across directories, reviews on Google, and pages that make clear which suburbs you serve and which complaints your practitioners treat.
Why do we rank below chiropractors and physiotherapists for the same complaint?
Usually because they have a page about the complaint and you don't. Australians search sciatica, back pain, a sore shoulder or a headache 63,100 times a month, against 14,700 searches for an osteopath. Practices that win those searches have built a page for each complaint, explaining what an assessment covers. It's the single largest gap we find on osteopathy websites.
How much does osteopathy SEO cost in Australia?
Published Australian agency figures put SEO for medical and dental practices at $1,500 to $2,500+ a month, and most small businesses pay $1,500 to $3,500 a month (both verified September 2026). What moves the price is how many locations you have, how contested your suburb is, and how many complaint pages need building. We scope each practice before quoting.
How long does osteopathy SEO take?
It depends on how contested your suburb is, the condition of your site and how much authority it has already earned. Business Profile and technical fixes tend to move first, while ranking for competitive complaint searches takes longer. Rather than quote an industry average, we set out what's realistic for your suburb and your site before you commit to anything.
Can we use patient testimonials on our website?
No. Section 133 of the National Law prohibits advertising a regulated health service using testimonials, and that reaches your website, your social profiles and your ads. Reviews left by patients on Google are different: you do not control them, they can stay there, and you can reply. What we never do is lift them onto your site or into an ad.
Can we say a practitioner specialises in sports injuries?
Only if the register supports it, and for most practitioners it will not. Under section 13 of the National Law, specialist recognition operates automatically only for the medical profession and the dentists division of the dental profession. For any other profession it exists only where the Ministerial Council has approved a list of specialties on the National Board’s recommendation. Claiming specialist registration you do not hold carries a maximum penalty of $60,000 or 3 years imprisonment or both. So we check the public register first, and where the title is not available we write “substantial experience in” or “working primarily in” instead, which reads more credibly anyway.
Should we write pages about treating babies and children?
Only within the Osteopathy Board’s current position, and we check what that position is before writing one rather than working from memory. Whatever it says, a children’s page cannot claim outcomes the evidence does not support, because that creates an unreasonable expectation of beneficial treatment under section 133. What such a page can do well is explain what an appointment involves and what a parent should expect.
Can you track new patients from Cliniko or Nookal?
Mostly, yes. We track calls, online bookings and form enquiries in GA4, including bookings made through your Cliniko, Nookal or Power Diary widget where it allows it. Those systems don't receive search data, so we match what search delivered against the new patients your front desk records.
Do we need Google Ads as well?
Not always. SEO builds visibility you keep, while Google Ads buys it straight away. The case for owning the organic result is strong here, because the complaint searches are far larger than the profession searches and nobody bids on all of them. The same advertising rules apply to ads, and we write both to the same standard.
Can you get our practice into ChatGPT and AI Mode answers?
Nobody can guarantee a mention in an AI answer, and it is worth being wary of anyone who does. What we can do is strengthen the signals those answers draw on: clear explainers of what osteopathy is, complaint and service pages, accurate business listings, reviews on Google, structured data, and mentions on sites AI tools already trust.
What should our website explain before someone books their first appointment?
It should make the practical next step clear: what an appointment involves, who they will see, where the practice is and how to book. We connect that information with your service and practitioner details so visitors don't have to piece it together from several pages. Your practitioners supply and review the clinical information, while we organise the pages and booking path.
