What is air conditioning SEO?
Air conditioning SEO is the work of getting an HVAC business found when people nearby search for an installer, a service or an urgent repair on Google, Google Maps and AI assistants. It covers the Google Business Profile and service area, a page for each job you want more of, reviews on Google, site speed, and tracking that ties each call back to a job booked in your job management software.
- Usually moves first
- Maps visibility across your service area
- Compounds
- Separate pages for install, service and repair
- Measured by
- Jobs booked, not rankings
Why air conditioning businesses lose jobs online
Most HVAC businesses we speak to have the same four problems, and none of them shows up in a rankings report.
Jobs booked by lead source
| Lead source, as entered by the office | Jobs booked |
|---|---|
| Repeat customer or maintenance plan | 41 |
| Referral from a builder or sparky | 24 |
| Lead marketplace | 15 |
| “Google” | 33 |
| Not recorded | 47 |
| Total new patients | 160 |
-
Summer decides the year
Demand spikes in a heatwave and again in the first cold snap. A business that starts building visibility in November is competing for the pages it needed to own in August.
-
Install jobs go elsewhere
Service calls come in, while ducted installs and whole-home replacements go to the business with a stronger page for each.
-
Gaps in your service area
You show up in the suburb you're based in, but not in the suburbs your vans drive through every day.
-
Calls nobody can trace
ServiceM8, simPRO, Tradify and Fergus record the job. None of them can tell you which search, which page or which suburb sent it.
How people search for air conditioning in Australia
The searches Australians make every month, grouped by what the customer needs, with the page or asset that wins each one.
| Search | Searches a month, Australia | What wins it |
|---|---|---|
| Service and repair | ||
| air conditioning repair | 18,100 | A repairs page naming the brands and systems you service |
| air conditioning service | 14,800 | A servicing page that explains what a service actually includes |
| air conditioning cleaning | 6,600 | A cleaning page covering split systems and ducted returns |
| air conditioning repair near me | 4,400 | The Maps pack and accurate hours on the Business Profile |
| Installation | ||
| air conditioner installation | 12,100 | An installation page with what's included and what isn't |
| ducted air conditioning | 6,600 | A ducted page covering zoning, the roof space and the switchboard |
| reverse cycle air conditioning | 8,100 | A reverse cycle page explaining heating and cooling in one system |
| evaporative cooling | 2,400 | An evaporative page, only in the states where it suits the climate |
| Nearby and general | ||
| air conditioning | 14,800 | The Maps pack, then a homepage built around your service area |
| air conditioning near me | 3,600 | A complete Business Profile with your suburbs listed |
| commercial air conditioning | 480 | A commercial page, if you genuinely take commercial work |
| Shopping for a unit | ||
| split system air conditioner | 22,200 | Usually a retailer search, not a job. Worth a comparison page, not a service page |
| ducted heating | 1,600 | A heating page, strongest in the southern states |
| heating and cooling | 1,600 | A page that covers both, for customers replacing a whole system |
| Cost research | ||
| air conditioning installation cost | 2,900 | An honest price guide that explains what changes the number |
| ducted air conditioning cost | 2,400 | A ducted pricing page, broken down by house size and zones |
| split system installation cost | 1,000 | The same page, for single rooms |
The single biggest search here, “split system air conditioner” at 22,200 a month, is mostly someone shopping for a unit rather than booking a fitter. The searches that actually book work are repair at 18,100 and service at 14,800, and those two carry the highest advertising costs of any trade on this site, at US$18.23 and US$19.75 a click. That is what your organic visibility is worth per click if you are not paying for it.
Average monthly Google searches and cost per click in Australia, from Google Ads keyword data, pulled 12 September 2026. Searches with no reported volume are left out rather than estimated, and where Google groups close variants at an identical volume only one is listed.
What our air conditioning SEO service includes
Six workstreams, run together, each one aimed at a booked job rather than a ranking.
-
Google Business Profile and Maps
Set up as a service-area business if customers never visit you: the suburbs you cover, every service you offer, hours that match when you actually answer, and photos of your own installs. Most “air conditioning near me” searches end on the profile, so it's where we start.
-
Separate pages for install, service and repair
These are three different customers with three different budgets, and one combined page serves none of them well. Each page states what the job involves, what drives the price, and the licences and authorisations you hold.
-
Service area pages, done properly
Only for suburbs you genuinely cover, and each written about that suburb: the housing stock, whether ducted or split suits it, and how far your vans travel. We don't build sets of near-identical suburb pages. Search engines treat those as doorway pages.
-
Reviews after every job
We help you ask customers for a Google review after the job and reply to each one well, the good and the bad. Reviews stay where customers write them.
-
AI search visibility
People now ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI Mode who to call about a dead split system. We structure your pages, schema and listings so those answers can find, trust and cite your business.
How AI search visibility works -
Call and job tracking
Calls, including missed calls, and forms tracked in GA4, so the office can compare what search delivered against jobs booked in ServiceM8, simPRO, Tradify or Fergus. That is also how you find out what last summer was really worth.

Marketing inside the air conditioning licensing rules
Air conditioning sits under two separate regimes. In NSW, air conditioning and refrigeration work is “specialist work”, so a contractor licence is required for work of any value, with no $5,000 threshold, and the licence number must appear in your advertising. Separately, refrigerant handling is federal: ARC issues the licence a technician holds and the authorisation a business holds. This is where we draw the line.
What we won’t publish
- An ad, page or profile without your contractor licence number where your state requires it
- A licence number without the category of work it actually covers
- “24/7” or “emergency” unless someone really answers
- A price that leaves out a fee the customer can't avoid
- Service area pages for suburbs you don't cover
What we do instead
- Your licence name, number, category and business phone number on the site and your ads
- Your ARC refrigerant credentials stated plainly, because customers and AI answers both read them as proof
- Hours on the profile that match when you actually answer
- Prices stated as the total, with any unavoidable fee included
- Service area pages only where your vans really go
We write trade copy to the Australian Consumer Law and to your state’s licensing rules. It supports your own obligations as a licensed contractor and ARC licence holder; it does not replace them. NSW Government guide to building trade advertisements

How much air conditioning SEO costs in Australia
Published Australian agency figures put SEO for trades and home services at $1,500 to $2,500+ a month, and most Australian small businesses pay $1,500 to $3,500 a month. No regulator sets SEO prices in Australia, so these are market figures, not a quote.
-
$1,500 to $2,500+
a month, what Australian agencies publish for trades and home services
Published Australian agency rate card, verified September 2026
-
$1,500 to $3,500
a month, where most Australian small businesses sit
Two Australian SEO cost guides agree, verified September 2026
-
US$500 to US$1,000
a month, the most common agency retainer worldwide
What moves the price
- How many suburbs and regions you cover
- How contested your area is
- Whether you want install, service and repair all working at once
- The state of your site and your call tracking
- Whether Google Ads runs alongside through summer
Set the market figures next to what one ducted install is worth to your business, and against the US$18 to US$20 a click that the repair and service searches cost to buy. The useful question is how many extra jobs a month the work has to bring in to pay for itself.

Air Conditioning SEO Questions
Do you lock HVAC businesses into contracts?
No. We work without lock-in contracts. If the work isn't paying its way for your business, you're free to stop.
What is local SEO for air conditioning companies?
Local SEO is the part of air conditioning SEO that decides whether you appear in the Google Maps pack and in “air conditioning near me” results across the suburbs you cover. It rests on a complete Google Business Profile, consistent business details across directories, reviews on Google, and pages that make clear where you work and which systems you install and service.
How much does SEO for HVAC companies cost in Australia?
Published Australian agency figures put SEO for trades and home services at $1,500 to $2,500+ a month, and most small businesses pay $1,500 to $3,500 a month (both verified September 2026). What moves the price is how many suburbs you cover, how contested they are, and whether you want install, service and repair all working at once. We scope each business before quoting.
When should an air conditioning business start SEO?
Earlier than most do. Demand spikes in the first heatwave and again in the first cold snap, and the pages and reviews that win those weeks have to already exist when the weather turns. Starting when the phone goes quiet means competing for visibility you needed months earlier. Rather than quote an industry average, we set out what's realistic for your area and your site before you commit to anything.
We install and we service. Should that be one page or two?
Two, and usually three. Someone replacing a whole ducted system and someone whose split system has stopped are different customers with different budgets and different urgency. One combined page tends to rank for neither well, and it makes the quote conversation harder because the page never set the expectation.
Do we need to show our licence number on the website?
In NSW, yes. Air conditioning and refrigeration work is classed as specialist work, so a contractor licence is required for work of any value and the licensee’s name and licence number must appear in all advertising, along with a business telephone number. Requirements differ between states, so we build to your state’s rules and we will not publish an ad or page that leaves the number off where it is required.
Should we mention our ARC licence?
We think so. Anyone handling refrigerant or working on air conditioning equipment needs a refrigerant handling licence from the Australian Refrigeration Council, and a business buying or storing refrigerant needs a Refrigerant Trading Authorisation. Those aren't advertising requirements, but they're real credentials that customers and AI answer engines both read as proof you are the genuine article.
I work from my van, not a shopfront. Can I still show up on Google Maps?
Yes. Google lets businesses that travel to customers set up as a service-area business, listing the suburbs they cover and hiding a home address. The profile can still appear in the Maps pack for searches in those suburbs.
Can you track which searches turn into jobs?
Mostly, yes. We track calls, including missed ones, and form enquiries in GA4. ServiceM8, simPRO, Tradify and Fergus don't receive search data, so we match what search delivered against the jobs your office books.
Do we need Google Ads as well?
Often through summer, yes. SEO builds visibility you keep, while Google Ads buys it straight away in the weeks when demand spikes and a dead system cannot wait. Many air conditioning businesses run both. The same consumer law and licensing rules apply to ads, so we write both to the same standard.
Can you get our business into ChatGPT and AI Mode answers?
Nobody can guarantee a mention in an AI answer, and it is worth being wary of anyone who does. What we can do is strengthen the signals those answers draw on: clear service pages, accurate business listings, reviews on Google, structured data, and mentions on sites AI tools already trust.
Can SEO focus on planned installations rather than urgent repairs?
Yes. The campaign can prioritise the work your business wants, with installation pages that explain the systems you supply, the areas you cover and the information needed for a quote. Repair and servicing pages can still support those services where you offer them. We review enquiries and booked jobs by service so increased traffic isn't mistaken for the right work.
