What is florist SEO?
Florist SEO is the work of getting a flower shop found when someone searches for a florist, same day delivery or flowers for a particular occasion on Google, Google Maps and AI assistants. It covers a page for each occasion you arrange for, the Google Business Profile that decides whether you appear in the map pack, delivery areas described accurately rather than invented, and tracking that ties an order back to the page that produced it.

- Measured by
- Orders and order value, not rankings
Why florists lose orders online
Most flower shops we speak to have the same four problems, and none of them shows up in a rankings report.
Orders by source, last month
| Source, as recorded when the order was taken | Orders |
|---|---|
| Walk-in to the shop | 63 |
| Phone, existing customer | 41 |
| Corporate account | 18 |
| “Website” | 96 |
| Not recorded | 44 |
| Total new patients | 262 |

Competing with order-gatherers for the delivery terms
The searches with the word “delivery” in them are the hardest on the board, because national relay sites have spent years building for exactly those. A local shop that only chases those terms is buying a fight it does not need to have.
-
One page for every occasion
Funerals, weddings, birthdays, sympathy and Mother’s Day are five different searches with five different jobs to do. A single “our flowers” page competes for none of them properly, and it can't say the right thing to someone arranging a funeral.
-
A shopfront the map pack can't see
For a florist the Business Profile is the shop window. Wrong categories, an ordering link that goes nowhere, a delivery area that doesn't match reality and a thin review history all quietly hand the order to the shop one suburb over.
-
Peaks nobody planned for
Demand for a florist isn't flat. Searches for “florist near me” in Australia ran to 24,798 in February 2026 against 12,058 in June, so the work that wins Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day has to be in place months before either.
How people search for flowers in Australia
The searches Australians make every month, grouped by what the customer is trying to do, with the page or asset that wins each one.
| Search | Searches a month, Australia | What wins it |
|---|---|---|
| Finding a florist | ||
| florist near me | 15,000 | The Maps pack and a complete Business Profile |
| florist | 4,900 | Your homepage, built around where you deliver |
| flower shop near me | 3,300 | The same profile, plus a real shopfront page |
| Delivery, and the hardest terms on the board | ||
| flower delivery | 8,500 | Hard. A genuine delivery page, plus authority |
| flower delivery sydney | 6,800 | Hard. A city page that names the suburbs you cover |
| same day flower delivery | 2,100 | Hard. A cut-off time you actually keep |
| flowers delivered | 1,500 | Hard. The same delivery page, this phrasing |
| Occasions, and where the room is | ||
| funeral flowers | 2,200 | A funeral page written with the right restraint |
| mothers day flowers | 1,900 | A Mother’s Day page, live months before the day |
| birthday flowers | 1,800 | A birthday page with same day cut-offs |
| sympathy flowers | 1,600 | A sympathy page, separate from funerals |
| wedding flowers | 1,500 | A wedding page with real work you've done |
| Product research | ||
| dried flowers | 6,300 | A dried range page, if you actually stock one |
The difficulty scores are the strategy for a florist, and they split the board cleanly in two. Every term with “delivery” in it sits between 70 and 75 out of 100 on Ahrefs difficulty, because national order-gatherers have spent a decade building for exactly those words. Every occasion term sits between 0 and 2. “Funeral flowers” is 2,200 searches a month at difficulty 0, and “sympathy flowers” another 1,600, also at 0. A local shop that spends its whole budget fighting for “flower delivery” is competing where it is weakest and ignoring 9,000 searches a month that are effectively unclaimed.
Average monthly searches, keyword difficulty and monthly volume history for Australia, from Ahrefs Keywords Explorer, pulled 12 September 2026. Searches with no reported volume are left out rather than estimated.
What our florist SEO service includes
Six workstreams, run together, each one aimed at an order rather than a ranking.
-
Google Business Profile and Maps
For a florist this is the shop window. Categories that match what you actually arrange, an ordering link that works, a delivery area that matches where your van really goes, hours that hold up on a public holiday, and photographs of your own arrangements rather than supplier stock.
-
A page for each occasion you arrange for
Funerals, sympathy, weddings, birthdays, corporate and the seasonal peaks. Each one written for the person searching it, which for a funeral means restraint and clear timing, and for a wedding means the work you have actually done.
-
Delivery areas described honestly
The ACCC has taken a national florist to the Federal Court over exactly this. We build delivery pages for areas you genuinely serve, saying plainly whether you deliver from your own shop or through a partner, and we do not imply a shopfront that is not there.
-
Suburb pages, done properly
Only where you really deliver, and each written about that area: the hospitals, the funeral homes, the venues, the cut-off time that applies there. We do not build sets of near-identical suburb pages. Search engines treat those as doorway pages, and the ACCC treats the “local florist” version of them as misleading.
-
AI search visibility
People now ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI Mode who delivers flowers to a suburb this afternoon and what's appropriate to send to a funeral. We structure your pages, schema and listings so those answers can find, trust and cite your shop.
How AI search visibility works -
Order and call tracking
Flowers are ordered online and by phone, often in the same week from the same customer. Calls, including missed calls, and online orders tracked in GA4, so you can see which occasion and which suburb are actually producing revenue.

Marketing inside the local florist rules
In December 2024 the Federal Court ordered Meg’s Flowers to pay $1 million in penalties after it admitted representing itself as a local florist in each of the towns and suburbs named across 156 websites and 7,462 Google advertisements, while maintaining no local shopfronts customers could visit. That is the single most important thing on this page, because it is exactly what a careless agency would build for a florist. This is where we draw the line.
What we won’t do
- Imply a shopfront in a suburb where you don't have one
- Spin up a page per suburb to look local in places you don't serve
- Advertise same day delivery to an area you can't actually reach in time
- Write or arrange reviews, or publish star ratings that aren't real
- Use supplier photography as though it were an arrangement you made
What we do instead
- Delivery pages only for areas you genuinely serve, with the real cut-off time
- Plain wording where an order is fulfilled by a partner rather than by you
- Your shopfront address and trading hours, kept accurate through the peaks
- One review request, sent to every customer at the same point
- Your own photographs, of arrangements you actually made
We write florist copy to the Australian Consumer Law and we build delivery pages the same way. It supports your own obligations as a business; it does not replace them, and it is not legal advice. ACCC media release on the Meg’s Flowers penalty

How much florist SEO costs in Australia
Published Australian agency figures put SEO for retail and ecommerce businesses at $2,500 to $4,500+ a month, and most Australian small businesses pay $1,500 to $3,500 a month. No regulator sets SEO prices in Australia, so these are market figures, not a quote.
-
$2,500 to $4,500+
a month, what Australian agencies publish for retail and ecommerce businesses
Published Australian agency rate card, verified September 2026
-
$1,500 to $3,500
a month, where most Australian small businesses sit
Two Australian SEO cost guides agree, verified September 2026
-
US$500 to US$1,000
a month, the most common agency retainer worldwide
What moves the price
- How many occasions you want to compete for
- How many suburbs you genuinely deliver to
- Whether you are competing for the delivery terms as well
- How much of your revenue runs through the seasonal peaks
- The state of your site, your Business Profile and your order tracking
Set the market figures against what a click costs to buy. “Same day flower delivery” runs at US$2.50 a click, the dearest term on the board, and that is for one click, not one order. Organic visibility for the same searches is what you are paying to build, and it is still there on the morning of Mother’s Day when the auction price triples.

Florist SEO Questions
Do you lock florists into contracts?
No. We work without lock-in contracts. If the work isn't paying its way for your business, you're free to stop.
How much does SEO for florists cost in Australia?
Published Australian agency figures put SEO for retail and ecommerce businesses at $2,500 to $4,500+ a month, and most small businesses pay $1,500 to $3,500 a month (both verified September 2026). What moves the price is how many occasions and suburbs you want to compete for, and whether you are taking on the delivery terms as well. We scope each shop before quoting.
Can we build a page for every suburb we deliver to?
Only for suburbs you genuinely serve, and only if each page says something true about that area. This is the one industry where getting it wrong has a price on it: in December 2024 the Federal Court ordered Meg’s Flowers to pay $1 million after it admitted representing itself as a local florist across 156 websites and 7,462 Google ads while keeping no local shopfronts. Search engines treat near-identical suburb pages as doorway pages, and the ACCC treats the “local florist” version of them as misleading.
Why can we not rank for “flower delivery”?
Because it's one of the hardest terms in Australian retail search. “Flower delivery” sits at 70 out of 100 on Ahrefs difficulty, “flower delivery sydney” at 74 and “flowers delivered” at 75, and the pages holding those positions belong to national order-gatherers with years of authority behind them. It's winnable over time, but it shouldn't be the first thing you spend on.
Where should a local florist compete instead?
On the occasions. “Funeral flowers” is 2,200 searches a month at a difficulty of 0, “sympathy flowers” 1,600 also at 0, “birthday flowers” 1,800 at 2 and “wedding flowers” 1,500 at 0. That's roughly 9,000 searches a month that no national brand has properly claimed, and they're the orders a real shop is best placed to fill.
When should we start work for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day?
Well before either. Searches for “florist near me” in Australia ran to 24,798 in February 2026 against 12,058 in June, so February is a little over twice the quietest month. A page that goes live the week of the peak has no history for Google to trust, so occasion pages want to be live, linked and earning traffic in the ordinary months first.
Do we need a separate page for funeral and sympathy flowers?
Yes, and they're genuinely different jobs. Someone searching “funeral flowers” is usually arranging something for a service on a fixed date and needs to know timing, delivery to a chapel and what's appropriate. Someone searching “sympathy flowers” is more often sending to a home. Between them they are 3,800 searches a month, and one page trying to do both serves neither person well at a moment when it matters.
Is Google Maps more important than our website?
For “florist near me” the map pack is usually where the order starts, so the Business Profile is doing the work of a shop window. The site is what converts it: it's where someone checks that you deliver to their suburb, what the cut-off time is, and what an arrangement actually looks like. They're two halves of the same thing, and neither works properly alone.
Do we need Google Ads as well?
Often, and especially around the peaks. SEO builds visibility you keep, while Google Ads buys it immediately, which matters when a fortnight of the year carries a large share of the revenue. The same consumer law applies to ads, including the claims you make about being local, so we write both to the same standard.
Can you get our shop into ChatGPT and AI Mode answers?
Nobody can guarantee a mention in an AI answer, and it is worth being wary of anyone who does. What we can do is strengthen the signals those answers draw on: clear occasion and delivery pages, an accurate business listing, a genuine review history, structured data, and mentions on sites AI tools already trust.
