What is SEO for fashion brands?

SEO for fashion brands is the work of getting a label’s products found when shoppers search for a product type, a fabric, a cut, an occasion or a brand they have not heard of yet, on Google, in Google’s shopping results and in AI answers. It covers collection pages built for those searches, product pages and product data that Google can read, a plan for sold-out and seasonal lines, reviews on the sites shoppers trust, and tracking that ties each search to an order, all written within the Australian Consumer Law.

Why fashion brands lose sales in search

Most labels we speak to have the same four problems, and none of them shows up in a rankings report.

Example figures. The shape is the point: collection pages, the ones built for “linen dresses” or “wide leg jeans”, earn fewer visits than sold-out product pages that send shoppers nowhere.
  • Collection pages that say nothing

“linen dresses” is searched 12,100 times a month and “wide leg jeans” 8,100 times in Australia. Those searches are won by collection pages, and most stores’ collection pages are a grid of products with no words for a search engine to read.

  • Seasons that start before the page does

“linen dresses” ran at 22,200 searches a month from October to December 2025, then fell to 6,600 by April 2026. A collection page published when the stock lands is already weeks behind the search.

  • Lists and AI answers pick the shortlist

“australian clothing brands” is searched 8,100 times a month. The answer is a list, from a publisher or an AI tool, and a label that isn't on it isn't considered.

  • Products that vanish from search

Sold-out lines, discontinued styles and filter pages leave dead ends and duplicate pages behind. A ranking a product earned can disappear with it unless there's a plan for when it sells out.

How shoppers search for fashion in Australia

The searches Australians make every month, grouped by what the shopper already knows, with the page that wins each one.

How shoppers search for fashion in Australia
SearchSearches a month, AustraliaWhat wins it
Category
dresses 135,000 A collection page, though every retailer in the country wants this one

clothing sale 8,100 A sale page kept at one address, with honest reductions
dresses sale 6,600 The same, for each collection on sale
size guide 590 A size guide on every product page, not a separate file

“dresses” is searched 135,000 times a month, but the searches a label can realistically win are narrower: “linen dresses” at 12,100 and “wide leg jeans” at 8,100, where a well-built collection page is exactly what the shopper wants. Timing matters as much: “linen dresses” ran at 22,200 searches a month from October to December 2025 and fell to 6,600 by April 2026, so the page has to be live before the season, not when the stock lands.

Average monthly Google searches in Australia, from Google Ads keyword data, pulled 12 September 2026, with monthly figures from September 2025 to August 2026. Searches with no reported volume are left out rather than estimated.

What our SEO for fashion brands includes

Six workstreams, run together, each one aimed at an order rather than a ranking.

  • Collection and category pages

A collection page for each fabric, cut, occasion and season shoppers search for, with enough words, filters and internal links for a search engine to understand it. Seasonal collections stay at one address year after year, so the ranking they earn carries into the next season.

  • Product pages and site structure

Product pages that name the fabric, fit and care, structured data Google can read, and a site structure that stops filter and sort pages turning into thousands of near duplicates. Sold-out and discontinued lines get a plan, so rankings aren't lost with the stock.

  • Google free listings and stores

A clean product feed in Google Merchant Center, so your products can appear at no cost in Google’s free listings across Search, the Shopping tab and Business Profile. If you have stores, each one gets a Business Profile of its own.

  • Reviews, handled carefully

Product and store reviews asked for from every customer, with any incentive offered whatever they say and disclosed. Reviews that are faked, filtered or edited mislead, and the ACCC has penalised businesses for all three.

  • AI search visibility

Shoppers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI Mode which brand to buy from. We structure your pages, product data and listings so those answers can find, trust and cite your label.

    How AI search visibility works
  • Order and revenue tracking

Orders and revenue tracked in GA4 against the page each shopper landed on, so you can see which collections and searches earned the sale, not just the visit.

Fashion marketing inside Australian Consumer Law

Fashion is one of the sectors the ACCC watches most closely. In its 2023 review of social media influencers, 96 per cent of the fashion influencers it looked at made posts that raised concerns, and clothing and footwear was among the sectors with the most concerning environmental claims. In 2021 the Federal Court ordered activewear label Lorna Jane to pay $5 million over false claims it made in store, on its website and on Instagram. This is where we draw the line.

What we won’t publish

  • A “was” price the item never sold at, or sold at only briefly before the sale
  • A sale that never ends, so the sale price is really the normal price
  • “No refunds” or “no refunds on sale items” on a returns page
  • Words like sustainable, eco or ethical with no evidence behind them
  • Paid or gifted influencer posts that aren't clearly disclosed

What we do instead

  • Was prices that are real, recent and held for a reasonable time before the sale
  • Sale pages that come down when the sale ends
  • A returns page that sets out the remedies for faulty goods beside any change-of-mind policy
  • Environmental claims that name the specific, checkable fact
  • Influencer briefs that ask for a disclosure the viewer sees straight away

We write fashion marketing copy to the Australian Consumer Law and the ACCC’s guidance on prices, returns, environmental claims and influencer posts. It supports your own obligations; it does not replace legal advice. ACCC, false or misleading claims

How our SEO process for fashion brands works

Five steps, in order. The pace is set by your range, your seasons and your market, so the plan sets it rather than a template.

  1. Audit

Search Console, your collections and product pages, your product feed, and your order tracking.

  2. Growth plan

What to fix and what to build, in order of the orders each is likely to bring, with your seasons in mind.

  3. Build

Collection pages, product data, technical fixes and tracking, with every page approved by your team before it goes live.

  4. Compound

Seasonal collections, reviews and authority, built on what the data shows is working.

  5. Report

Against orders and revenue, not rankings.

How much SEO for fashion brands costs in Australia

Published Australian agency figures put SEO for retail and ecommerce businesses at $2,500 to $4,500+ a month, and most Australian small businesses pay $1,500 to $3,500 a month. No regulator sets SEO prices in Australia, so these are market figures, not a quote.

  • $2,500 to $4,500+

a month, what Australian agencies publish for retail and ecommerce businesses

Published Australian agency rate card, verified September 2026

  • $1,500 to $3,500

a month, where most Australian small businesses sit

Two Australian SEO cost guides agree, verified September 2026

  • US$500 to US$1,000

a month, the most common agency retainer worldwide

Ahrefs survey of 439 SEO providers, 2023

What moves the price

  • How many collections and products you carry
  • How many markets you sell into
  • The platform your store runs on
  • The state of your product data and tracking
  • Whether Google Shopping ads run alongside

Set the market figures next to your average order, your margin and how often a customer comes back. Fashion clicks are cheap one at a time, from US$0.47 for “dresses” to US$2.21 for “mens clothing online”, but at 135,000 searches a month for “dresses” alone, paying for every visit adds up. The useful question is how many orders a month the work has to bring in to pay for itself.

SEO for Fashion Brands Questions

Do you lock fashion brands into contracts?

No. We work without lock-in contracts. If the work isn't paying its way for your brand, you're free to stop.

How much does SEO for a fashion brand cost in Australia?

Published Australian agency figures put SEO for retail and ecommerce businesses at $2,500 to $4,500+ a month, and most small businesses pay $1,500 to $3,500 a month (both verified September 2026). What moves the price is how many collections and products you carry, how many markets you sell into and the state of your product data. We scope each brand before quoting.

How long does SEO for a fashion brand take?

It depends on how contested your categories are, the condition of your store and how much authority it has already earned. Fixing the collection pages you already have tends to move first, while ranking for a crowded category takes longer. Rather than quote an industry average, we set out what's realistic for your label before you commit to anything.

Should we build collection pages or blog posts?

Collection pages first. A shopper searching “linen dresses” or “wide leg jeans” wants products, and a collection page with the right words, filters and links answers that better than an article. Guides earn their place for questions such as “what to wear to a wedding”, and should link straight to the collection.

What should happen to a product page when it sells out?

Usually, keep it live. A product coming back into stock should keep its page, with a clear message and similar products, so it holds the ranking it earned. A product gone for good should redirect to the closest collection or replacement rather than leave a dead link. We plan this before stock runs out, not after.

Can our products show in Google Shopping without paying for ads?

Yes, if they're eligible. Google says free listings are one way to show products at no cost, and that they can appear across Search, Images, Lens, YouTube, Gemini, the Shopping tab and the products module on a Business Profile. That needs a clean product feed in Google Merchant Center, which we set up and maintain alongside your SEO.

Can we call our range sustainable or ethical?

Only with evidence behind it. The ACCC’s guide to environmental claims asks businesses to make accurate claims they can back up and to avoid broad, unqualified ones, and in its 2023 review clothing and footwear was among the sectors with the most concerning claims. So we write the specific, checkable version, such as what the fabric is and what share of it is recycled, rather than a single word like eco.

Do you work with Shopify stores?

Yes. We work on Shopify and other ecommerce platforms. On Shopify, collection and product addresses follow a fixed pattern and some technical settings live in the theme, so we plan the site around what the platform allows rather than fighting it.

Do we need Google Ads as well?

Not always. SEO builds visibility you keep, while Google Ads and Shopping ads buy it straight away. Many labels use ads to launch a collection and SEO to keep selling it, season after season. The same consumer law applies to ads, so we write both to the same standard.

Can you get our label into ChatGPT and AI Mode answers?

Nobody can guarantee a mention in an AI answer, and it is worth being wary of anyone who does. What we can do is strengthen the signals those answers draw on: clear collection and brand pages, accurate product data, genuine reviews, structured data, and mentions on sites AI tools already trust.
