What is dental SEO?
Dental SEO is the work of getting a dental practice found when local patients search for a dentist, a treatment or an urgent appointment on Google, Google Maps and AI assistants. It covers the Google Business Profile, treatment and fee pages, local signals, reviews on Google, site speed, and tracking that ties each search back to a new patient booked in the practice management system.

- Measured by
- New patients booked, not rankings
Why dental practices lose new patients online
Most practices we speak to have the same four problems, and none of them shows up in a rankings report.
New patients by referral source
| Referral source, as entered at reception | New patients |
|---|---|
| Word of mouth, friends and family | 21 |
| Health fund preferred provider list | 9 |
| Walked past the practice | 4 |
| “Google” | 12 |
| Not recorded | 17 |
| Total new patients | 63 |
-
Gaps in the book
Midweek hygiene appointments sit empty, and fail to attends and late cancellations leave holes the front desk can't refill at short notice.
-
The profitable chairs go elsewhere
Implant, aligner and whitening enquiries go to the group clinic with hundreds of Google reviews, while your treatment pages sit on page three.
-
One source of new patients
Word of mouth and the health fund’s preferred provider list bring patients in, but you control neither, and neither grows when you need it to.
-
Numbers nobody connects
Dental4Windows, Core Practice, Praktika or Dentally can report new patients. None of them can tell your practice manager which search sent them.

How patients search for a dentist in Australia
The searches Australians make every month, grouped by what the patient needs, with the page or asset to prioritise for each type of search.
| Search | Searches a month, Australia | Page or asset to prioritise |
|---|---|---|
| Nearby and routine | ||
| dentist near me | 135,000 | The Maps pack and a complete Business Profile |
| dentist melbourne | 2,900 | A location page for each practice |
| check up and clean | 170 | A service page with online booking |
| Health fund | ||
| bupa dentist | 33,100 | A health fund and fees page |
| hcf dentist | 12,100 | The same page, naming each fund you work with |
| High-value treatment | ||
| invisalign | 33,100 | A treatment page |
| teeth whitening | 22,200 | A treatment page |
| dental implants | 9,900 | A treatment page that states risks and suitability |
| cosmetic dentist | 3,600 | A service page with a clear before and after policy |
| Cost research | ||
| dental implants cost | 6,600 | An honest fee guide |
| dental crown cost | 4,400 | An honest fee guide |
| bulk billing dentist | 2,400 | A fees page covering the Child Dental Benefits Schedule |
| Urgent and after hours | ||
| dentist open sunday | 1,000 | Accurate weekend hours on the Business Profile |
| dentist open saturday | 590 | Accurate hours and click to call |
In this dataset, “bupa dentist” and “invisalign” have the same reported volume. Health-fund searches can include people looking for the fund’s own clinics or directory, so that volume isn't all available to an independent practice.

What our dental SEO service includes
Six workstreams, run together, each one aimed at a new patient rather than a ranking.
-
Google Business Profile and Maps
Each location set up properly: categories, services, accurate hours including weekends, photos, and practitioner listings only where they help rather than split your reviews. Most “dentist near me” searches end on the profile, so it's where we start.
-
Treatment and fee pages
One strong page for each treatment you want more of: implants, clear aligners, emergency dentistry, children’s dentistry, sleep dentistry and whitening. Each states what the treatment involves, who it suits, the risks and what drives the fee.
-
Suburb pages, done properly
Only for suburbs you genuinely draw patients from, and each written about that suburb: parking, transport, and how far patients travel. We don't build sets of near-identical suburb pages. Search engines treat those as doorway pages.
-
Reviews, the compliant way
We help you ask more patients for a Google review and reply to each one well. Reviews stay on Google, where patients leave them. We never republish them on your site or in ads, because clinical testimonials in advertising breach the National Law.
-
AI search visibility
Patients now ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI Mode which dentist to see. We structure your pages, schema and listings so those answers can find, trust and cite your practice.
How AI search visibility works -
Booking and tracking
Calls, online bookings through HotDoc, HealthEngine or your PMS booking widget, and forms, each tracked in GA4, so your practice manager can compare what search delivered against new patients in Dental4Windows, Core Practice, Praktika or Dentally.

Video reviews from dental and health clinics
Six short videos from clinics we've worked with: five dental practices and IV League Drips, an IV therapy clinic. Some figures are client-reported, and all can reflect the combined campaign rather than SEO alone.
Marketing inside the AHPRA rules
Dental advertising is regulated under the National Law, and the rules reach your website, your Business Profile and your ads. This is where we draw the line.
What we won’t publish
- Clinical testimonials on your website or in ads
- “Specialist” or a specialist title without specialist registration
- “Painless”, guaranteed results or claims to be the best
- Discounts or free offers without the terms stated
- Before and after photos that could mislead
What we do instead
- Reviews earned on Google and left there
- Practitioner titles checked against the public register
- Treatment pages that state risks, suitability and that results vary
- Before and after photos only where consented, representative and taken the same way
- Fees shown with what is and isn't included
We write dental copy to AHPRA’s advertising guidelines. It supports your own obligations as a registered practitioner; it does not replace them. AHPRA advertising hub
How our dental SEO process works
Five steps, in order. The pace is set by your practice, your site and your suburb, so the plan sets it rather than a template.
-
Audit
Check Search Console, your Business Profile and the local results. Record the starting position, priority treatments and gaps in booking tracking.
-
Growth plan
Agree the pages and technical work in scope, who supplies clinical information, how success will be measured and which dependencies could delay delivery.
-
Build
Complete the agreed Business Profile, treatment-page and technical changes. Check the live pages, booking links and enquiry tracking before judging the results.
-
Compound
Review the searches and landing pages bringing relevant enquiries, then prioritise the next improvements. Revisit the plan when demand, capacity or competition changes.
-
Report
Compare the baseline with search visibility, organic enquiries and the practice’s booking totals. Keep paid results separate and explain where attribution is incomplete.
How to measure dental SEO results
Use three separate measures to understand whether search is helping the practice. A rise in one doesn't prove a rise in the next.
Search visibility
Compare non-brand Search Console clicks for your treatment and location pages over matched periods. Keep branded searches and paid traffic separate so existing awareness doesn't hide weak new-patient discovery.
Qualified enquiries
Count calls, forms and booking completions that your tracking can actually observe. Separate organic website traffic, Business Profile activity and paid campaigns. A click on a booking button isn't a completed appointment.
Patients booked and attended
Compare enquiry trends with the practice manager’s new-patient and attendance totals for the same period. Keep missing referral sources visible. Report a relationship between the totals where a reliable individual match is unavailable.
For example, 20 organic enquiries and 12 new patients in the same month don't establish a 60% conversion rate: they may not be the same people. Match the records reliably before making that claim, or report the two totals separately. This is an illustration, not a client result.
How much dental SEO costs in Australia
Webapex publishes $1,500 to $2,500+ a month for medical and dental SEO and $1,500 to $3,500 for small businesses generally. These are one Australian agency’s published guides, not an industry average or an Uppercut quote. We scope your practice before quoting.
-
$1,500 to $2,500+
AUD per month, Webapex’s guide for medical and dental practices
-
$1,500 to $3,500
AUD per month, Webapex’s general small-business guide
-
US$500 to US$1,000
a month, the most common agency retainer worldwide
Ask us to set out the work included, any separate setup or tracking costs, GST treatment and cancellation terms in your proposal. If you also want Google Ads, compare its management fee and media spend separately from SEO. Published benchmarks don't establish what your practice will be quoted.
Treatment fees aren't patient profit
Historical Australian treatment fees from the 2022 survey. These are revenue examples, not current quotes, profit or patient lifetime value.
| Treatment | Average fee |
|---|---|
| Check-up, scale and clean with fluorideItems 012, 114 and 121 | $219Range $162 to $309 |
| Veneered crownItem 615 | $1,678Range $1,250 to $2,100 |
| Implant placement, before the abutment and crown | $1,334 to $3,000 |
Australian Dental Association national fee survey 2022, as published by CHOICE
What moves the price
- How many locations and practitioners you have
- How contested your suburb is
- How many treatment pages need building or fixing
- The state of your site and your tracking
- Whether Google Ads runs alongside
To assess break-even, use the contribution left after treatment costs, not the full treatment fee. Allow for enquiries that don't book, cancellations and patients who would have come anyway. Compare the same period and keep paid advertising separate.

Dental SEO Questions
Will you work with another practice near us?
We take on one dental practice per suburb, so we never work for two practices in the same one. If another practice in your suburb already works with us, we'll tell you before any work starts. The policy applies to the suburb your practice is located in, not every neighbouring suburb you draw patients from. We check each location for a group before agreeing the scope.
Do you lock practices into contracts?
No. We work without lock-in contracts. If the work isn't paying its way for your practice, you're free to stop.
What is local SEO for dentists?
Local SEO is the part of dental SEO that decides whether you appear in the Google Maps pack and in “near me” results. It rests on a complete Google Business Profile, consistent practice details across directories, reviews on Google, and pages that make clear which suburbs you serve and which treatments you offer.
How much does dental SEO cost in Australia?
Webapex’s published guide gives $1,500 to $2,500+ a month for medical and dental SEO in Australia. This is a third-party benchmark in AUD, not an Uppercut price or an industry average. We quote after checking your locations, competition, treatment pages and tracking. Compare the proposed scope, separate costs, GST and cancellation terms. The pricing section links the source.
How long does dental SEO take?
It depends on how contested your suburb is, the condition of your site and how much authority it has already earned. Business Profile and technical fixes tend to move first, while ranking for competitive treatment searches takes longer. We first establish the baseline and agree the work, then check implementation before reviewing enquiries and booking totals. Your plan sets the sequence and review points around your site, clinical approvals and practice capacity; a ranking movement alone isn't evidence of more patients.
Can you track new patients from our PMS or online booking?
Mostly, yes. We track calls, online bookings and form enquiries in GA4, including HotDoc and HealthEngine bookings where the widget allows it. Dental4Windows, Core Practice, Praktika and Dentally don't receive search data, so we match what search delivered against the new patients your practice manager records.
Do we need Google Ads as well?
Not always. SEO builds organic visibility that needs ongoing maintenance, while Google Ads buys visibility for the treatments you want more of, such as implants or aligners. Many practices run both. The same AHPRA rules apply to ads, so we write both to the same standard.
Can you get our practice into ChatGPT and AI Mode answers?
Nobody can guarantee a mention in an AI answer, and it is worth being wary of anyone who does. What we can do is strengthen the signals those answers draw on: clear treatment pages, accurate business listings, reviews on Google, structured data, and mentions on sites AI tools already trust.
Do you work with multi-location and corporate groups?
Yes. Each location gets its own Business Profile, its own location page and its own tracking, so one strong clinic doesn't hide a weak one. The one practice per suburb policy applies to every location, so we check each suburb before we start.
Which dental treatment pages should we prioritise?
We start with the treatments your practice actually offers, the enquiries you want and the capacity available to see those patients. We then check existing pages and search demand to decide what needs improving or building. Each page needs accurate information from your clinical team, a clear booking path and a way to measure relevant enquiries separately from paid campaigns.
