What is cleaning company SEO?
Cleaning company SEO is the work of getting a cleaning business found when a facilities manager, a strata committee, a school business manager or a householder searches on Google, Google Maps and AI assistants. It covers a page for each kind of cleaning you contract for, the Google Business Profile that decides whether you appear in the map pack, evidence that your people are screened and insured, and tracking that ties an enquiry back to the page that produced it.
- Usually moves first
- Your Google Business Profile and reviews
- Compounds
- A page for each contract type, in each area you cover
- Measured by
- Enquiries and contracts, not rankings
Why cleaning companies lose contracts online
Most cleaning businesses we speak to have the same four problems, and none of them shows up in a rankings report.
Enquiries by source, last month
| Source, as entered when the enquiry was taken | Enquiries |
|---|---|
| Existing client, extra site | 19 |
| Referral from a strata manager | 14 |
| Tender portal | 8 |
| “Google” | 31 |
| Not recorded | 22 |
| Total new patients | 94 |
-
One page for two different businesses
Winning an office contract and winning a house clean are two different sales, to two different buyers, at two different prices. A single “our services” page competes properly for neither, and the contract half is where the recurring revenue is.
-
Nothing on the site about screening or insurance
A school, a childcare centre or an aged care operator is buying a cleared, insured team before it is buying cleaning. If a site says nothing about how your people are screened, the buyer has to ask, and most of them ask somebody else instead.
-
A Business Profile built for one address
Cleaning is delivered at the client’s site, not at yours. A profile with the wrong categories, no service area and a thin review history quietly loses to the operator in the next suburb.
-
Enquiries nobody can trace
Most contract work starts with a phone call or a form. If neither is tracked, the enquiry that came from a commercial cleaning page and the one that came from a referral look identical.

Contract work is 13,400 searches a month against 5,550 for one off home cleaning, so the recurring side of this market is searched for about two and a half times as often as the domestic side. And 2,600 of that contract demand, close to a fifth of it, is for schools, NDIS participants, childcare and aged care: work a cleaning business in NSW cannot lawfully take on unless the people doing it hold the right check. That is the unusual thing about this industry. The best recurring contracts on the table are the ones you are not allowed to advertise for until your team is cleared, which is also why they are the least contested.
Average monthly Google searches in Australia, from Ahrefs Keywords Explorer, pulled 13 September 2026. Searches with no reported volume are left out rather than estimated.
What our cleaning company SEO service includes
Six workstreams, run together, each one aimed at a contract or an enquiry rather than a ranking.
-
A page for each kind of cleaning you contract for
Offices, strata, schools, childcare, aged care, NDIS, gyms, warehouses and domestic work are different buyers with different questions. Each page sets out the scope, the hours you work, how access is handled and what changes the price.
-
Screening and insurance, made visible
Whether your people hold a Working with Children Check or an NDIS worker screening clearance, what your insurance covers, and how you verify it before someone starts on site. For a school or an aged care operator this is the first question, and most cleaning sites answer it nowhere.
-
Google Business Profile and Maps
Cleaning is delivered at the client’s site, so the profile has to describe a service area rather than a shopfront. Categories that match the work you actually contract for, hours that match when someone really answers, and photographs of your own teams rather than stock.
-
Service area pages, done properly
Only for areas your teams genuinely cover, and each written about that area: the building stock, the business parks, the schools and the strata. We don't build sets of near-identical suburb pages. Search engines treat those as doorway pages.
-
AI search visibility
People now ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI Mode who cleans offices in their area and whether a cleaner needs a Working with Children Check. We structure your pages, schema and listings so those answers can find, trust and cite your business.
How AI search visibility works -
Call and enquiry tracking
Contract work starts with a call or a form. Calls, including missed calls, and form enquiries tracked in GA4, so you can see which contract type and which area are actually producing work.

Marketing the contracts that need a cleared team
Cleaning is not a licensed trade, so there is no licence number to display. What there is instead is worker screening, and it lands on the most valuable contracts in the table above. In NSW, the Office of the Children’s Guardian lists “you provide cleaning services to a school” in the column of roles that DO need a Working with Children Check, and lists a tradesperson whose contact with children is incidental in the column that does not. Section 8 of the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 carries a maximum of 100 penalty units, or two years imprisonment, or both, for a worker engaging in child-related work without a clearance or a current application, and sections 9 and 9A carry up to 100 penalty units for a corporate employer that engages one or fails to verify and record the details. At $110 a penalty unit under the Crimes (Sentencing Procedure) Act 1999, that is $11,000, or $5,500 for an employer that is not a corporation. So a school, childcare or aged care page is a page about your people before it is a page about cleaning.
What we won’t do
- Say your team is cleared, screened or checked unless you have told us it is
- Write that you're an NDIS registered provider unless you are
- Claim a Working with Children Check covers work it doesn't cover
- Advertise for school, childcare or aged care contracts you aren't able to staff
- Put a page up for an area your teams don't actually cover
What we do instead
- Ask first which of your roles are screened, and write only that
- Say plainly which checks your people hold and how you verify them
- Keep the schools, childcare, aged care and NDIS pages separate, because the buyers are
- Point to the regulator’s own guidance rather than paraphrasing it
- Keep the claim on the page in step with the team you actually have
This is the NSW position, read from the Office of the Children’s Guardian and the Act itself. Other states run their own schemes and we check which applies to you before writing anything. Whether a particular cleaning role is child-related work, or a risk-assessed NDIS role, is a decision for you and your adviser. We write to it; we do not decide it, and this is not legal advice. How much cleaning company SEO costs in Australia
Published Australian agency figures put SEO for trades and home services at $1,500 to $2,500+ a month, and most Australian small businesses pay $1,500 to $3,500 a month. No regulator sets SEO prices in Australia, so these are market figures, not a quote.

a month, what Australian agencies publish for trades and home services

-
$1,500 to $3,500
a month, where most Australian small businesses sit
Two Australian SEO cost guides agree, verified September 2026
-
US$500 to US$1,000
a month, the most common agency retainer worldwide
What moves the price
- How many contract types you want to compete for
- Whether you are chasing commercial work, domestic work or both
- How many areas your teams cover, and how contested they are
- The state of your Business Profile and your review history
- The state of your site and your call tracking
Set the market figures against what the work is worth to you rather than against a single job. A domestic clean is one booking; an office, strata or school contract is a site you hold for years, and one of those changes what a month of visibility is worth. That is also why we report on enquiries and contracts rather than on rankings.

Cleaning Company SEO Questions
Do you lock cleaning companies into contracts?
No. We work without lock-in contracts. If the work isn't paying its way for your business, you're free to stop.
How much does SEO for cleaning companies cost in Australia?
Published Australian agency figures put SEO for trades and home services at $1,500 to $2,500+ a month, and most small businesses pay $1,500 to $3,500 a month (both verified September 2026). What moves the price is how many contract types and areas you want to compete for, and the state of your Business Profile. We scope each business before quoting.
Should we chase commercial contracts or domestic cleaning?
Look at what the searches say before deciding. Contract cleaning terms are 13,400 searches a month in Australia against 5,550 for one off home cleaning, so the recurring side is searched for about two and a half times as often. Domestic work is easier to start and easier to lose; a site you clean on a contract is revenue you keep. Most operators end up doing both, and the mistake is running one page that tries to sell to both buyers at once.
Do our cleaners need a Working with Children Check?
That depends on the work, and it's worth getting right before you advertise for it. The NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian lists providing cleaning services to a school in the column of roles that do need a Check, and lists a tradesperson whose contact with children is only incidental in the column that doesn't. Its own examples are a general guide rather than an exhaustive list. We ask which of your roles are screened and write only what you tell us, because the page is what a school will read first.
What happens if someone starts before their check comes through?
In NSW a person can generally start once they hold a current application number, but some employers require a valid clearance before a start date, including NSW Health, the Department of Education and services in early childhood education and care. Section 8 of the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 carries a maximum of 100 penalty units, or two years imprisonment, or both, for a worker without a clearance or a current application, and at $110 a penalty unit that is $11,000. It is a question for you and your adviser, not something a marketing page should decide.
What does an employer have to do, not just the worker?
In NSW the Office of the Children’s Guardian states plainly that it is against the law to engage anyone in child-related work without a Working with Children Check. An employer has to register, identify which roles need a Check, verify each clearance against the register and keep a record of the details, updated within five working days. Sections 9 and 9A carry up to 100 penalty units for a corporate employer, which is $11,000, and 50 units otherwise. Using a third-party verifier does not remove the obligation to register, and the Guardian advises the employer if a worker is barred.
Do we need NDIS worker screening to take NDIS cleaning work?
Ask before you advertise for it. The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission’s worker screening rules apply to registered providers and turn on whether a role is risk-assessed, which means direct delivery of supports with more than incidental contact, or a key personnel role. Its own worked examples do not cover cleaning, so we do not claim either way on your page. What we do is ask whether you are registered and which of your roles you have assessed, then write to that.
Do we need a separate page for schools and childcare?
Yes, if you want that work. A school business manager and a householder are buying two different things, and the school is buying a cleared, insured team before it is buying cleaning. Those searches are also less contested than the general terms: “school cleaning” and “ndis cleaning services” are 1,000 searches a month each, and most cleaning sites have nothing to answer them with.
Do we need a page for every suburb we cover?
No, and building one is a good way to get penalised. Near-identical suburb pages are treated as doorway pages. What works is a genuine page for each area your teams really cover, written about the building stock, the business parks and the kind of sites that come out of it.
Is Google Maps more important than our website?
For the smaller, faster enquiries the map pack is usually where things start, so the Business Profile does a lot of the work. For a contract it is the other way round: a facilities manager or a strata committee reads the site, checks the scope and looks for evidence about your people before anyone rings. They're two halves of the same thing, and neither works properly alone.
Do we need Google Ads as well?
Sometimes. SEO builds visibility you keep, while Google Ads buys it immediately, which can be useful when you move into a new area or lose a large site. Contract terms are searched by a small number of buyers, so the two work differently here than they do for domestic work, and we would look at your own numbers before recommending either.
Can you get our business into ChatGPT and AI Mode answers?
Nobody can guarantee a mention in an AI answer, and it is worth being wary of anyone who does. What we can do is strengthen the signals those answers draw on: clear service pages, accurate business listings, a genuine review history, structured data, and mentions on sites AI tools already trust.
