WHAT AI SEO & GEO DOES
Generative engine optimisation (GEO) improves how your business can be found, understood and referenced in AI-generated answers. Also called AI SEO, it combines established search optimisation with research into the questions buyers ask AI tools and the sources those tools use.
A buyer might search for “commercial solar installers”, then ask an assistant to compare providers for a warehouse, explain finance options and identify suitable experience. Your website needs to answer those follow-up questions, with evidence that helps someone choose you. A broad service description rarely does that job alone.
Our SEO strategy connects those questions to useful commercial pages, supporting expertise and a clear enquiry or purchase path. GEO is about visibility in AI-assisted search. It's different from using AI software to write articles.
THE SCALE OF AI ADOPTION
The audience is substantial. These published usage figures show why AI discovery belongs in the search conversation, alongside the work that already brings customers to your website.
People use ChatGPT for many tasks, including researching questions and comparing options.
OpenAI, 08/04/2026
AI-generated summaries reach people within Google Search itself.

Google’s assistant gives customers another place to explore a problem before choosing a provider.
Google, 22/07/2026
Reported for April 2025. Perplexity combines conversational questions with web research and linked sources.
Backlinko, April 2025 data
Reported in March 2026 by Anthropic’s Mike Krieger. A snapshot of new sign-ups, not monthly active users.
TechRadar, 06/03/2026Published global figures at the dates shown, checked 14/09/2026. Weekly users, monthly users and daily sign-ups measure different things; audiences also overlap. Figures include activities beyond search and aren't a combined audience total.
TRADITIONAL SEARCH VS AI SEARCH
A results page helps people choose which websites to visit. An AI answer can bring information together before that visit, changing where your business needs to be useful and how visibility is measured.
The experiences overlap: conventional search can be conversational, and AI answers can send visitors to websites. Strong SEO supports both. A mention isn't a visit, and neither is automatically a lead.
HOW DISCOVERY CHANGES
Customers still use search results, websites and reviews. AI adds another place to research a problem, compare alternatives and narrow a shortlist before getting in touch.
The opportunityBe useful while buyers decide who to consider
A keyword shows a topic. Follow-up questions reveal the constraints behind a purchase.
A clear claim needs something behind it: experience, product facts or a useful explanation.
An appearance in an answer is a starting point. The landing page still has to earn the enquiry.
Agree your priority services, products and markets. Build a question set from real buying decisions, review current visibility and identify the pages with the greatest commercial value.
Compare your pages with the sources buyers encounter. Separate technical barriers from missing answers, weak evidence and conversion friction. Agree the scope and who will implement each change.
Improve the priority pages, connect supporting content and implement the agreed technical work. Review factual claims with your team and verify the live pages before moving to the next group.
Repeat the visibility sample, examine referral and lead data, and compare progress with the implementation log. Expand the work where the evidence supports it and revisit questions that aren't helping buyers.
THE WORK BEHIND THE STRATEGY
The audit becomes an implementation plan. We agree the priority pages, content work, technical changes and reporting before the engagement starts.
A strategy for a product catalogue will differ from one for a professional service. Ecommerce SEO focuses on product discovery and sales; lead generation SEO connects expertise to qualified enquiries. The proposal defines content volumes, development and outreach responsibilities. Where needed, technical SEO removes access barriers and editorial link building supports credible references.
PLATFORM PRIORITIES
The same buyer can use several tools. We assess the relevant search experience and the sources it returns, then prioritise changes that also make your website more useful.
For Google’s AI features, the starting point is a page that can be indexed and shown with a snippet in Search. We review the commercial topics you want to appear for, the useful pages you already have and the gaps in their supporting information. There's no separate AI submission process or special schema requirement.
When ChatGPT searches the web, a response can draw on external sources and link to them. We examine the questions your buyers might ask, which sources appear and whether your business is described accurately. A recommendation query needs different source material from a factual question about a product.
Gemini is a separate experience from Google’s search results, even where both draw on web information. We test the research and comparison tasks relevant to your audience rather than assuming a change in Google rankings produces the same change in an assistant’s answer.
For research-led buying journeys, the sources linked in an answer are useful evidence about the information a buyer is seeing. We review those sources for coverage gaps, clarity and relevance to the decision, then decide what your own pages need to contribute.
Platform features and answers change. We retain the date and testing context so repeat observations can be interpreted properly. Google’s guidance for AI features explains its eligibility and reporting requirements.
These are wider SEO case studies, not dedicated GEO results. We don't attribute their gains to AI optimisation.

You should be able to tell what's being delivered, why it matters and who owns it.
The main cost drivers are the condition of your website, the number of commercially important topics, the content and development required, and the breadth of monitoring. A business with strong existing pages may need a focused improvement programme. A site with access problems and thin service content needs more foundational work. We quote against the agreed scope and separate optional development, content production and outreach costs.
AI search work is most useful when customers research options and your website has expertise worth presenting. For a business still missing basic service pages, local visibility or working conversion tracking, those gaps may come first. We connect the AI work to your existing SEO priorities so you don't pay two teams to fix the same pages.
A useful report separates what we changed, where the business appeared and what visitors did. A mention names you; a citation links to a source; a referral is an identifiable visit. Leads and sales need their own attribution evidence. We show the prompt sample and dates alongside visibility observations, then review landing pages and lead quality rather than combining unlike measures into one unexplained score.
Your website content, accounts and data remain yours. The scope sets out access requirements, factual review, developer responsibilities and the approval process. You can see completed changes and next priorities. Our no-lock-in approach means the relationship has to keep earning its place through useful work and clear communication.
Start with a conversation about your customers and commercial priorities. We'll help you work out where AI search belongs in the plan.

Based in Sydney and working Australia-wide, Uppercut Digital builds GEO and AI SEO strategies around the way your customers research and choose. Connect specialist AI search work with B2B SEO, local search or your wider organic growth strategy.
Practical answers to the questions businesses ask before choosing a provider.
SEO improves visibility in search engines. GEO focuses on how a business is discovered and represented in generative AI answers. AEO, or answer engine optimisation, generally describes making content useful for direct answers, including search features and assistants. These terms overlap. The practical work is to make your pages accessible, answer the right questions and substantiate what you say, then measure the search experiences relevant to your customers.
Your pages need to be indexed and eligible to appear in Search with a snippet. Google doesn't require special AI markup or a separate submission. We assess technical access, internal links, content usefulness and the questions surrounding your commercial topic. Meeting those requirements creates eligibility, not a guarantee that Google will include a particular page in an AI answer.
No one can guarantee a ChatGPT recommendation, but we can improve the information available about your business and assess how it appears in a defined sample of ChatGPT searches. Work can include better service explanations, consistent business facts, useful evidence and relevant external references. We can't control individual recommendations: answers depend on the question, context, available sources and the product experience. A credible proposal should define deliverables and measurements instead of promising a guaranteed recommendation.
No. A content gap is a missing useful answer, not automatically a need for more articles. Often the better task is to improve an existing service page, add product detail or publish a first-hand example. AI tools may assist production, but your expertise, factual review and editorial judgement are what make the result worth reading. Large volumes of generic copy can leave the original buyer questions unanswered.
Only indirectly. Relevant structured data can describe the content on a page, but there is no special schema that guarantees an AI citation. Google says its AI features don't require new machine-readable files or AI-specific markup. We prioritise accessible text, accurate facts, useful internal links and supported markup. An llms.txt file shouldn't be sold as a substitute for that work or proof that a platform will use your content.
It depends on the bot’s purpose and your business policy. Search retrieval and model training are different uses, and platforms can provide separate controls. We review the current official crawler guidance and your robots rules before recommending changes. Public marketing pages and private customer material shouldn't be treated alike. Access alone does not guarantee that a page will be indexed, cited or recommended.
There's no dependable citation deadline. Some factual or technical changes can be published quickly, while content development and authority work take longer. Platforms also need to discover changes, and answers vary between observations. We agree delivery milestones first, establish a baseline and review comparable samples over time. Progress is assessed against completed work and useful visibility or commercial outcomes rather than a promised ranking date.
Partly. Identifiable AI referral sessions can be examined in analytics and connected to conversions where tracking permits. CRM data can help establish whether enquiries were qualified. The coverage is incomplete: some answers produce no visit, referral information can be missing and buyers may return through another channel. We report attributable outcomes separately from sampled mentions and citations, and don't assign all subsequent branded search or direct traffic to AI.
Yes, but the useful questions and evidence differ. Ecommerce buyers need product attributes, availability and comparisons. B2B buyers may need implementation detail, proof and procurement answers. Local service buyers need accurate service areas, suitability and evidence of relevant work. We select the questions and pages around that buying journey rather than apply an identical content plan to every business.
Ask to see the proposed work, its connection to your commercial pages and how results will be measured. Look for clear responsibilities, factual review and transparent reporting of the prompt sample. Separate general SEO case studies from AI-specific evidence, and ask how any claimed lead or revenue gain was attributed. Uppercut Digital’s published case studies demonstrate wider SEO delivery; they aren't presented as isolated proof of GEO results.
Tell us what you sell, who you want to reach and where search currently falls short. We'll discuss the opportunity, the foundations already in place and the work worth prioritising.
